PlayStation Network Breach: Sony Says Credit Card Info Was Encrypted
All we've detected hitherto from the PlayStation Network and Qriocity hacking debacle are bad things — namely, that personal data, including drug user names, passwords, and mayhap stored credit card entropy may have been compromised. However, here's something to ease your mind: whol stored credit card info was encrypted.
Just one day subsequently Sony revealed that individualized user data may ingest been compromised, the company uploaded a Q&A blog post on its website. Sony's conductor of communications and interpersonal media, Patrick Seybold, wrote that "totally of the data was protected" and that "the entire credit batting order table was encrypted and we throw no evidence that charge card data was taken."
Of course, what we can draw from this is non only that stored deferred payment wit info is (likely) safe, but that the non-credit card info was not encrypted. And it wasn't, as Seybold writes, "The personal data table, which is a separate information set, was not encrypted, merely was, of course, behind a really sophisticated security system that was breached in a malicious attack."
Sony says in that location is no manifest that the (encrypted) credit card info was compromised, only of course it "cannot decree out the possibility." Sony has assured users that the three-digit security system code on the back of their accredit cards has not been compromised, as Sony has never requested information technology from anyone WHO has joined PSN operating theatre Qriocity.
Soh, that's some good news program in all of the bad news, right? Still, it's a good theme to put a fraud alert on your card and spotter your bill for any funny activity (or, if you can afford it, exactly natural your card and get a new one).
